About Ben

Your Trusted Painter and Decorator in Hastings

With an eye for detail and a love for hands-on work, I’ve been painting and decorating homes across Hastings, Rye, and Bexhill for over 15 years. I offer a full range of decorating services — including interior and exterior painting, wallpaper installation, plastering, and dustless sanding — all delivered with care, precision, and pride.

How It All Started

I originally studied graphic design at college — I’ve always had an eye for detail — but I quickly realised that sitting in front of a screen all day wasn’t for me. I left in 2001 and tried a few different jobs until a friend asked me to help on a decorating project in 2005. I loved it — and things snowballed from there.

Over the years, I worked with various local decorating companies, learning on the job and refining my skills. I also took specialist courses along the way, including asbestos awareness training, so I could always execute every project safely and professionally.

Why I Love What I Do

Decorating is a labour of love. I enjoy seeing the transformation — and more importantly, how happy people are with the results. No two jobs are the same: every house is different, every customer is different. That variety keeps it interesting and rewarding.

I’ve been lucky to work with some truly lovely customers over the years, and I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built. I also have great friends in other trades — electricians, plumbers, roofers — so I’m happy to recommend trusted people if your project needs more than just decorating.

What You Can Expect

Clean, tidy, respectful work in your home

Your home is your space — and I treat it with care. I always use dust sheets, tidy up at the end of each day, and make sure tools and materials are kept out of the way. Respecting your time, space, and privacy is part of the job.

Dustless sanding for minimal mess and a smoother finish

I use professional dustless sanding equipment to keep your home cleaner and the air healthier while achieving a flawless surface. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference — both for the result and your comfort.

Careful preparation for long-lasting results

A good finish starts with the right prep. I take the time to fill, sand, and prime properly so that your paint or wallpaper not only looks great, but also stands the test of time. No shortcuts — just solid, skilled work.

Honest quotes and clear communication

You’ll always get a clear, fair quote with no hidden costs. I’ll keep you in the loop throughout the job and explain anything you need to know. Good communication means no surprises — just a job well done.

Areas I cover

I offer painting, decorating, plastering, and wallpaper services across Hastings and surrounding East Sussex areas — from coastal towns to rural villages. Here's where I work regularly:

Hastings

A vibrant seaside town with a mix of Victorian terraces, modern homes, and historic cottages — from Old Town charm to newer housing estates. I work across all areas of Hastings.

Bexhill-On-Sea

A coastal town just west of Hastings, known for its elegant Edwardian houses, spacious seaside flats, and quiet, leafy suburban roads — great for both interior and exterior decorating.

Polegate

A small commuter town near Eastbourne with a range of post-war semis, bungalows, and some newer builds — ideal for full home redecorations.

St Leonards-On-Sea

Adjoining Hastings, St Leonards is full of elegant period homes, seafront flats, and growing new developments. Many of my customers here are restoring or modernising older properties.

Heathfield

A market town surrounded by countryside, with detached homes, cottages, and some newer developments — popular with families and retired homeowners.

Battle

A historic town known for its character homes, older brick houses, and conversions — often requiring detailed interior painting and heritage-sensitive decorating.

Westham

A village-turned-small-town with a mix of traditional Sussex houses and more recent suburban housing — often modernising interiors or updating exteriors.

Rye

A picturesque medieval town with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses, with period properties that need careful attention to detail.

Fairlight

A coastal village east of Hastings with a mix of detached 20th-century homes and cliffside bungalows — often exterior work and refreshing seaside interiors.

Camber

Best known for its beach, Camber has newer holiday lets, bungalows, and chalets — often needing quick turnarounds or seasonal redecoration.

Icklesham

A village between Rye and Hastings with rural cottages, post-war homes, and family properties — a peaceful spot where quality finish matters.

Winchelsea

One of England’s smallest towns, with a wealth of historic and listed buildings — often requiring traditional painting methods and careful plasterwork.

Guestling

A quiet village with scattered cottages and farm-style homes — typically needing exterior painting or classic wallpapering inside.

Pett

A rural village near the coast with a mix of older homes and newer countryside properties — good for both freshening interiors and full redecorations.

Broad Oak

A small village with detached homes and bungalows, ideal for light plastering, decorating refreshes, or modernising dated interiors.

Beckley

Set in the countryside near Rye, Beckley offers a mix of heritage homes and barn conversions — often involving rustic finishes and bespoke paintwork.

Staplecross

A quiet village in the High Weald with cottages and semis — I often help homeowners here keep things looking fresh while maintaining character.

Catsfield

A peaceful rural village with a mix of traditional cottages, farmhouses, and newer family homes — perfect for classic decorating and careful interior restoration.
